Blog #10

Internship time: 0 hrs Blog time: 30 mins Research/final product time: 2.5 hours TOTAL: 3 hours      Because I do not go in for my internship until tomorrow, it gave me part of today to research things I need to know for my final product, as well as learn about certain ingredients that I will be using and trying out for my "beauty on a budget" DIY book. I read some blogs like "Accidentally Jetset", "lovelaurenelizabeth" and more to get inspiration from their blogs and see what skincare and beauty products they are using and loving currently. It's really important for me to stay up to date on what influencers and beauty gurus are using so that I can stay in the loop and in the know of what's new so I can know what to give a shot. As we know, skin is the largest organ on our bodies so taking care of it and nourishing it is really important yet still overlooked by the majority of people. Today I learned about aloe and its healing properties, cale...

Tomorrow I start my internship at Paradox Beauty. I am a little nervous but excited more than anything. I am working an 8-hour day for one of the days which is really exciting and unlike anything I've done before because I've only worked part-time at jobs so it will be a new experience and I think it will be a preview into what every day as a working adult will be like.  I finally got my hours too which is nice is nice because I was stressing out about it before. Overal I feel really excited to get started and really really excited to learn about what I am passionate about.

So far, I need to receive my schedule from my boss. Once I am one week away from work, I will ask more persistently about my schedule. Because I do not have my schedule, I am having trouble organizing the tasks I know I will have to do, such as writing blog posts and making my final project. What I do know, is that I am working at least 20 hours a week, which gives greater insight into the time I need to spend on my physical project. Researching so far, I have learned a lot, specifically about female empowerment and the origins of beauty and makeup products. Mainly, I have been finding all of my information off of a compilation of blogs and websites. Lastly, I have figured that my final product will be a "beauty on a budget book" with DIY recipes about organic beauty products. I am generally feeling in control of my priorities and know I will be able to accomplish them in time.

Olivia Brand Ms. Anderson Senior Seminar April 2018 Research Paper #4: Global Perspective Beauty is defined in a plethora of ways depending on who you ask, however, social media has created standards that many young women feel the need to uphold and exceed. It’s very easy to feel the pressure of these standards growing up as a young woman in today’s day. Female beauty is something that is starting to be talked about a lot which is really amazing because then younger girls maybe do not have to grow up with the same expectations that we have in society today. Another huge issue with the beauty industry is that there is not enough or much diversity showcased in beauty ads and by brands which have become a real problem that needs to de-escalate as soon as possible. A model tells her experience and says “the ideal of beauty, and who represents beauty, and what beautiful is changed so quickly and so radically right after that, that by the time I had my children they can't even ...

Olivia Brand Ms. Anderson Senior Seminar April 2018 Research Paper #3: Associated Controversies For years and years there has been a debate about whether makeup and beauty products are superficial or not, and most of the time, people have something to say about it. Makeup and beauty products can only transform someone so much, in fact, many women and men wear makeup not because they think it makes them look prettier or more attractive, they wear it to boost their own self-confidence and feel better about themselves throughout the day.  In fact for some, leaving the house in sweatpants and without brushing their hair may actually distract them more than wearing a full face of makeup simply because they would not be so concerned about their appearance and they would then have the ability to focus on other more important parts of their day. The point is, it really is up to no one else but the individual wearing the makeup to decide what it means - whatever makes you feel ...
